... the side of the mountain as well as some cows wearing their own KOM jerseys.

After the rest it was time for an 8 mile decent back to the town of St Jean de Maurienne. This was a very technical decent with very twisty roads and times of uneven pavement. The pros often go 50-60 MPH down these descents. They are crazy!

When we reached the town it was time to go back up the mountain to our viewing area. We had about an eight-mile climb left. The support vans were ...

... from the hot sun.

At first I was feeling a little stiff in the legs. I made sure to pace myself up the hills. Ray, Rich and I have mostly been riding the "Performance" rides but there were a few of the riders that were riding “Extreme” the first 3 days that dropped into our group. They are strong riders therefore the pace was a little higher.

Our ride was to finish up a steep climb call Les Lacets de Montvernier. It is this crazy road that ...

Rich, Ray and I found that if we keep a nice easy pace of 5-6mph and take occasional breaks that we stay strong for the whole day. Hopefully this will keep up as we have 3 more day of riding after today.

When we reached the top of the Telegraphe we stopped and took a number of pictures. There was this interesting "statue" of a cyclist atop his ...

... day with 7,200 feet of climbing. Overall
I feel pretty good on the rides. In Austin Rich, Ray and I had been riding at a
much harder intensity and climbing much steeper hills. We don’t have the length
by any means but so far it seems to have paid off. I think tomorrow will be a
test as we are climbing the mighty Col de Galibier.

I wish I could post pictures but the Wi-Fi is extremely
slow. I will save all my pics and add them in at a later time.

... the top of Glandon you turn left and then a steady 3km rise to Col de la Croix de Fer, then a long descent.

Next climb, Col du Mollard , was really tough because I started getting stomach cramps ..in hindsight I reckon that was the result of drinking too much coke at the drink stops (they had a choice between warm Perrier Sparkling, cold Coke or warm Evian. No brainer.

From that point on the rest of the day ...
