... around and around and up and down, she goes again...." ...Those words seem to ring a bell from some song way back...
Anyway, we very quickly found that the road deteriorated into a very narrow, basically one-lane road hewn out of solid rock from the sides of abyss-like valleys, as we clawed our way up and up, this way and that, up and up, until we were tip-toeing like flies across ...

No wild life, but the birds were singing to us while we trekked through the forest and many of the cows and sheep jingled their bells as we passed. Then we headed up again, and up again and up again. The views were amazing, we walk up to cols ( like a saddle ) then down to another ridge, then up again. There is lots of snow, forests of pines, rock faces, and many little brooks and streams with icy cold water. Our ...

... got better as we left behind the cloud cover on the top of the mountain, and the sun brought welcome relief from the freezing cold.

Once past the twisty bits, there is a long straight slightly undulating stretch that is perfect for tandems, and we were able to settle into a comfortable 35 kph and enjoy the scenery.

We stopped for a mint tea in Bessans, and then carried on the D902 then D1006 along the valley towards Termignon. ...
