It's a cool wet morning, just like home. I get the bike out of the ballroom and head off fully suited into the mountains. I manage to get onto the free roads again, I must be getting the hang of it.<br> Once again there are whisps of white clouds drifting above and below, and really high black ones dropping on me! This is probably the best road so far (Mex 190) to Santa Domingo Tehauntepec, really good surface well generally ...

Zanatepec, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico kunzandwanner... unexplored. Moving on towards Pelenque, another 8 hours on the bus, so arrived tired and a bit ratty, but came through it with a few beers with our new friends from around the World, always the best part of the journey. Pelenque was in the jungle, hot and humid. Everything felt damp, including our washing which just got wetter, as did out clean clothes. Again the ruins were vast and different enough to make them just as interesting with comb ...
San cristobal de la casas, Mexico mills01480... to warn drivers. Locals will paint a Tope sign on almost anything to give you a heads up. I think the folks living nearby get tired of the screeching tires, and the loud bang and the sound of metal skittering down the highway after being dislodged from the shoddy maintained vehicles. If you were to live near a Topa and wanted to sleep you would sign it someway. They become the staging area for many different ...
Arriaga, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico jdswedOn to Puerto Arista, a relative metropolis, plenty of shops, some of them even open! Out of high season seaside towns tend to only fully open at weekends when the city dwelling Mexican hordes descend. Found a nice little place near a smelly lagoon and not far from the beach, but sadly, as often happens in Mexico, the workers started banging around at 6am - because it´s really hot later, they start work early but with no concern for their sleeping clients.
Puerto Arista, Chiapas, Mexico ccchrissieJust a stop over in this small town, where a Saturday night is spent drinking until falling asleep in the streets. It was quite funny arriving there so late, everyone just coming to us so drunk and talking to us and then after one hour seeing them sleeping outside. This time has not much apart from good hot dogs, we went to eat them at a stand where they were showing a Mexican boxing game, and i had to stasy the whole 11 rounds and cheer up with the locals...
Arriaga, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico luciecoxHi to you all, I think it was Saturday the 1st of March we left San Christobal for an orhanage called the Hogar Infantil, a short trip to Ocozocoautla, if you can get your mouth around that one let me know? We stopped at Chiapa de Corzo on the way and toured the spectacular Sumidero Canyon by boat for over 2 hours. 800 meter walls at it's highest point with water 160 meters at it's deepest we were told, a couple of unusual formations on the ...
Puerto Arista, Mexico mcgregors5... map, and we knew to go the entrance of the city and look for a certain restaurant, and then to go down the street and ask for the Castillo family. So we found some Castillos but the guy seemed to not remember the names of his nephews that had gone "to the other side" or "al Norte" (to the North). So we continued on to the other ...
Tonalá, Chiapas, Mexico cmnaylor... in and let us camp and hang our hammocks under her cabana for free. We ate meals with the family, which was very cheap and always included fresh fish or shrimp, and the almost always drunken senor of the place loved to belt out mexican love songs with his guitar. I got to learn some of their fishing techniques, and also observed several men building a thatched roof palapa from scratch. All in all it was absolutely gorgeous place, the ...
