We are finished with day 1 of our hike! Beautiful scenery the whole way. This portion of the hike followed a single lane paved road for about half the day so it didn't feel remote. We hiked thru several little villages. If you want some suggestions on where to find a lovely chalet in the French alps, just let us know. We have a few picked out for you! We would be pleased to visit! The ...

... about sliding straight over the edge and down into the valley some 5 or 6 kms below us. Everybody had their own technique, and it was really funny watching everyone else, but only once you had got to the end yourself. There is lots of snow, forests of pines, rock faces, and many little brooks and streams with icy cold water. Our ...

Love this spot. Like a little version of Venice with its little canals running through the old village, cobblestoned streets, bridges, old buildings. Beautiful. Full of tourists! Dave wants to retire here! The lake s a stunning turquoise colour, I've never seen a lake like it.
Excellent cycling through the alps. Great cycle paths set out. We hired bikes for a day, and had a great day cycling around Lake Annecy. We also did the pedal boats ...

... parked near the historic part, walked around the "Les Jardins de l’Europe" (a big park on the lake) for a while, then walked into the town. Abby had been here last year, but it was hard to get a real feel for the place from her pictures. Actually being here was more impressive – it’s a very cool spot.

What gives Annecy its real charm are the rivers and canals that run into the historic city, and the position of the city on the lake and ...
