... out their surroundings! They were all the more pleased when their buddies from l'Ecole Alsacienne joined them for an hour of catch and catch-up time. Our afternoon in the museum went well and we took a street bus back to school from the Bastille for a more scenic route than the underground. Another great day ahead tomorrow at the Musee de l'Orangerie!

We'll always have Paris

... A large part of what makes Europe so amazing is its gastronomic delights that are part of its culture and charm. Sadly however, what goes around becomes round and no mater how much we seem to try and shake it off the excess weight, it just keeps following. Wherever we can we choose to walk or climb the stairs to burn up a few more of those extra yummy calories we've been consuming but the progress seems slow if not dormant. I'm afraid our next stop, Belgium, is not going to help this cause.

... and me), it was cloudy and rained for some of the day. (not sure what it is and me being in San Sebastian on the one day of the month it rains!) Andrew, shockingly, decided that we needed to walk around the city and drink and eat pintxos, since it was too gross out to go to the beach or the sculpture garden. The day that followed may have been one where I laughed the most in my entire life! We spent a lot of time hanging out at the ...

... them fresh and the owner was really quite friendly.. I had a nutella crepe and Brian had one with nutella and banana. The owner put a whole banana in! It was delicious, especially the crispy edges.. mmm.. We eventually made it back to the Champs Elysees, as the main reason for this was that I wanted a t-shirt from the Disney store, but didn't see the same one for sale at the park yesterday.. Well, I got my shirt and we also ended up at the original ...

... in our nice cabin on the train for about an hour, we were rudely awakened by the conductor who was telling us of his disapproval over our decision. I woke up to him speaking French to Jessica (one of the four girls who went on the trip) and was very confused because I knew the conductor was upset, but couldn't understand what he was saying. He told us that we had gotten on the "nice" train...and were supposed to wait for our train...which according to him wasn't sooo nice. I was ...

Museum Day

... So many people I had talked to before the trip said that the Orsay was their favorite museum in Paris, and now I understand why. You just have to see it to understand.... From the Orsay we walked past the Hotel des Invalides, which isn't a hotel at all but rather a splendid large building with a huge golden dome atop. It was built by Louis XIV as a veteran's hospital, and is now an Army Museum that is fronted by a ...

Quick recap of the past week

... good enough to be the best as far as I could tell, and judging by the crowd there I think many people will agree. After lunch Sonia and I went to the Pablo Picasso museum and wandered around admiring some of the very unique art that Picasso is noteworthy for. I didn't realize that he had such an affinity for guitars. He must have had at least 25 - 30 paintings or sculptures depicting a guitar. Now I really want one. And of course last night as suggested above was ...

... we would search for the exhibit in the museum.) The main reason to visit the Cluny is the huge and beautiful tapestry (gobelin): The Lady and the Unicorn. There are actually five tapestries, depicting each of the senses and one tapestry with the Lady putting off her necklace as a symbol of rejecting all earthly desires in favor of spiritual growth. (Cluny also has a nice garden with explanations about the uses of plants in the middle ages, household, medicinal, symbolic and ...

Bonne Annee

Hmm yesterday was definitely the day that never ended. My first transatlantic flight with an inappropriately old child to be screaming for a good portion of it. Mother and child were both about to be voted off the plane somewhere over Greenland (where it's icy, as opposed to Iceland where it's green). So much fun to be using my French (or what is left of it) and people have been kind to my attempts. I feel like 7 years of schooling in the language has ...
