Hamam and Dinners

... man after his bath with the locals. Apparently you go into a big room and they put local soap all over him and scub he said that a layer of skin came off and then they put big buckets of hot water all over him to make him clean. As I could not go Mohammad brought me back some local clay that you mix with water and put on your hair to make it really clean and nice so will have a girly night when we get home and we can try it out.
<br ...

Essaouira, the lovely seaside Land of "The Vowels"

... into a vibrant local "garage sale" (if there's a "Goodwill" in Morocco, by golly I'll FIND it!) where a cluster of scarf-clad matrons (at first clearly skeptical of a lone tourist with a camera barging into their cloistered midst) soon amicably melted (as I made it clear I wouldn't dream of snapping photos in such a private domain.) Indeed, eventually I negotiated for a somewhat tattered (but nonetheless ...

Horse riding, fish market and a punch up

... we were sore from the horse riding earlier, but it was most, most agonizing. I really did laugh – John was on a camel behind me and all I could hear were mutterings from him about “my legs were never meant to stretch this wide” and grunts and groans with every lollop of the camel – they are quite ungainly creatures and John was feeling every footstep. It was a whole new level of uncomfortable for him and I could do nothing for laughing! I think we ...

Overflowing with mint tea!

... in there, the food was delicious again. I absolutely love Moroccan food, I am definitely going to purchase tagine pots and cook tagine at home, I’m addicted to it!!!! This time I have Tagine de Kefta, which Alex tells me is one of the most traditional dishes for the area – and essentially it is meatballs in tomato sauce with a poached egg on top, another firm favourite for me.

Afterwards we walk round the harbour to look at all the ...

Seventh Day - Essaouira trip

... covered with goats eating it. So strange show=) Look it;)

We had a lot of day free ahead of us so after a little dinner at the hotel I decided to go to our former hotel, Agadir Beach Club with newly found friends=) We sat here listening by beautiful singer, she was performing great, known by everyone, oldies songs, I talked with some french pair sitting next to us=) And when she was ...

Stepping back in time

... the middle ages and no cars or motorcycles are allowed in the medina. Even if you have a shop or move into a house, there is no exception, so everything gets transported by wheelcarts. It is a friendly city where you can peacefully stroll through the streets without constantly being hassled by vendors. I checked into Riad Baladin, a wonderfully restored old house with a central courtyard and ...

Essouria, a restful change from Marrakech

... non-organic garbage which would have flowed down the nearby river mouth due to the rain of the last several days. There was also tractor marks on the beach, evidence the locals had already started to clear the beach (and it still hadn't finished raining). This river wash was also evident in the water - it was a brown colour (rather than blue) from all the top soil. The sun started to set, so we headed back towards the Medina to see what we could see before night set in and it ...

Pleasant day in Essaouria

... Funny thing about tonight was that we ended up missing the music concert all together. started while we were showering for dinner, then the band was on break when we walked to dinner, and after dinner it was over! So funny. Putting up with this crowd and seeing none of the act! oh well. Tomorrow it's off to the palmeria :)

CHAPTER 5 - PARIS-DAKAR? YOU MUST BE ENGLISH!

... water for 3 days. After breakfast at the hotel it's off to Hammam number 3 for the Works. Wash? Absolutely! Shower? Yes please. Hammam? Yep, we'll take some of that. Massage? Why not, bring it on. The inside of the Hammam El-Bacha is fantastic - an enormous domed roof, like a mosque, and they didn't go stingy with the marble when building it. A collection of mopeds are parked in the central entrance hall, and we wonder if our bikes could get a wash here too! Our masseur takes us ...
