We walk past a large open paved area that has lots of fine water sprays coming out of it. This makes the whole area look like it is covered in mist. The effect is spooky. It is also very effective at cooling you down.

With our Eurail pass we decided to do a few day trips from Nice. We started with Monte Carlo, Monaco in the morning. It is strange to think that within 30 minutes you are standing in a new country. Monte Carlo is a beautiful city, built up on a cliff but with a lovely view of an incredibly blue ocean. It feels like any other city until you get over to the area where the casino is. Monte Carlo is famous for their casino but we went to an aquarium. All the fishies were so pretty apart from the eels and the fishies with beards. The Eels are green because of the mucus on their skin which stops disease and parasites.

Today I began my day much like yesterday except I wasn't in a rush. I went to the French cafe next to the one I went to yesterday and enjoyed cappuccino with a baguette and a croissant with butter and jam. Just writing that makes my mouth water because it was so good. The food here is so different than what I am used to; everything is so much more natural! ... evening Jan again prepared a lovely dinner for us. Annelie took me shopping in the local markets and I was envious of the fresh fruits and vegetables so readily available. The French are obviously serious about their food!

On Monday we made the return trip. We had to be home in time for our building project! And while our time in Mandelieu was short, it was a perfect "taste" of the south of France. I hope we will return again soon!
