This building, called la Corderie Royale, is where all of the ropes were made for different boats and ships, like Hermione. It is 374 meters long and the longest building in Europe. They had to make ropes close to 200 meters long and this explains the length of the Corderie Royale, because of the way the ropes were traditionally made in the past. Hermione was re-built using Oak. They had to find the materials
and actually used the very center of 4000 Oak trees that were between 150-200
years old. They used the core of the trees as this wood is very good quality.

During my tour, I took pictures of panels that explained

... have to meet at Poitiers 2 days a week for classes with all of the other new teachers.

So anyways, Caroline is from Bretagne, and crepes are the specialty there. She made us some yummy “salty crepes” so crepes, you’d eat for supper. We had ham, cheese and egg in ours. ... Nutella and smartie, 3 chocolate, Maple syrup, etc. I had the Nutella and smartie one, AND these crepes were probably the cheapest ones we’ve ever seen.

There was also a park along the river, the river splits into 2 in Saintes and one part turns into a little lake and the other part must keep going to Cognac…another city in this region that we would like to visit one day.
