    ... Bell", but I am so content and happy at the moment that I couldn't think of anything I need wish for, so I gave it a miss... Only joking, it cost like 8 euro. You know me.     ... and just 6 miles or so from Italy, we stopped at a great stone fort that was used by the Italians in the 15th century to fight the Ottoman invasion, and then ironically by the Austrians to repel the Italians in the 1st World War. Sheer drop on one side, sheer cliff on the other with ladder rungs affixed to the cliff face (see photo) that allowed soldiers to quickly get to the mountain top, a very dramatic site, full of history.     ... the sound of the river rushing underneath us and the knowledge of being underground all contributed to that bizarre feeling. Despite there being a solid railing all the way, I still held the kids closely! As the temperature started to increase we knew we were nearing the end of our tour and underground experience.     ... The next part of the ascent was to be by chairlift up a ski run, however the chairlift wasn't operational, so we began the hour long hike up with all of the other folk who were kitted up ready to ascend Mt Everest! We followed the windy gravel track up with the occasional shortcut up the steep grassy ski slopes all the way to the restaurant/base camp I guess. We enjoyed a traditional mountain meal while sitting outside in the clouds with a large contingent of other hikers. ...

    We set off in rain and before we reached Bled there was bright sunshine which made the lakes and mountains even more stunning than they were already.
