After intending a 6-day stay at St. Clair, we left after 12. Our excuse was to avoid the motorway traffic around the Monaco GP weekend! David continued with his bike rides into the hills with Rien which he enjoyed immensely, particularly the banter from his bike-buddy. We have arrived at Sanremo (Villagio dei Fiori) after a 209 km journey west. The tunnel to kilometer ratio was close to 1:2. Sunglasses on, sunglasses off. Not as straight as we are used to and Lib was quiet for a while. Yes, we used the Autostrada again, going through (actually over) cities such as Genova and some bigger towns. ... while well signposted, was shut. And it wasn't even close to lunchtime! Perked up when we came across the local market, so were able to choose some local cheese, bread and tomatoes for lunch.

Before we left Najac, we'd bought cooler packs and a large insulated bag. These have been invaluable, as have my kettle and thermos.

He spent breakfast with Dan and Sarah, a liberally-pierced Aussie couple, and rode through the Rhone wine region. His favourite wine, predictably, is Chateau De Asse.
