... the Med before taking us inland and through the olive groves.

On arrival at Portofino we were greeted with a similar village to those in Cinque Terre but not quite as quaint. Not sure what all the fuss is about...Santa Margherita wins our vote.

Back at Scooby for lunch of bbq chicken wraps and biscotti for dessert, then onto the autopista to lovely Lucca.

... our seats there was a couple who was seated in them and it was funny because there was barely anyone on the train but we did not want to take the chance of sitting somewhere else and taking someone else's seat. Well this lady gave us an earful of how she thought it was ridiculous that they had to move considering there were about 50 other open seats in our cabin, but she's like if these are your seats you better take them. She went on for about 2 minutes while ...

... of the city and had the BEST focaccia bread ever! After we left the group we had lunch at a little place with outside cafe seats and it was terrific. Rachel had a spicy pizza, Il Diablo and I had a zucchini tart. Then we wandered back to the ship and now Rachel is at the gym and I am updating my blog! We are a lucky group here! Tonight is casual night thank goodness. More to come!

A wonderful winding route via a inland section have lead me from Pisa to the coastline around Genova. But since in that part of the environment it was very hard to find a spot for bushcamping I took the toll freeway to prevent to get stuck in the chaotic traffic of Genova and headed north into the highlands of the northern region of Genova. A beatiful spot at the top of a mountain has provided perfect views to sunset and sunrise, but a bloody cold night!

... a great big braking effort.

But moreover than those issues is the immediate concentration required to play in the fast lane. It is “game on” from the minute you enter the highway, until you stop for a break. It is a new game for me to drive for 2-3 hours straight at a minimum speed of 100. Curves, tunnels (light-dark-light), bridges, trucks, construction, cars behind…. etc. It all comes and goes at 100. You can ...

... sighs from him. Rob has this luck, I took him to Hooters for lunch in Canada as he couldn't take his eyes off the ladies there, only to be served by a lady in her 30s who looked like she had had 5 kids, the second time he was served by a man in drag, drunk on his stag do in full uniform, and on my first trip to England a girl about 5 foot 1 high and round tried to chat him up and demonstrated her womanly wiles by attempting to get up on a bar stool in a very short skirt and ...

... Montorosso as we passed many of sweating miserable tourists on their way up. What an amazing area though! Really, I don't even have the appropirate articulation to describe what this place is. For those who have been there you know. But definitely don't miss this when going to Italy. The towns are small, and there's not too much to do other than trek, swim, and enjoy. But that's all you need to do. So it took us 3 to 4 hours to hike ...

Cinque Terre

... alternative to the French Riviera. The Cinque Terre refers to five small cities along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea (or actually the Ligurian Sea). We stopped in the first and last of the five cities (nine minutes apart by train) for a quick look around and to enjoy the beauty of the coast. We ate some gelato and were on our way back to Genova to catch the midnight train out for Rome.
