We took a drive up the road. It was basically free of cyclists bar a few crazy souls, one guy was trying to descend and basically slowing to a stop at the hairpins, to avoid sliding out. The poor bugger had 21 hairpins to deal with to make the bottom unscathed.

... a bit disappointing really and had us wishing for the breakfast we'd become so accustomed to. I made a mental note not to joke about the breakfasts any more. There were two table fulls of 60'ish year old Netherlanders that were deafeningly loud, proving the theory of the Belgium folks that we'd met the evening before.

... or so we were overtaking all the cycles, we climbed with them to 8500 ft, then descended with them the other side, the problem is we were marginally quicker than them on the uphill but alot of them were quicker than us on some of the down hills! Of our 45 miles, we were with them for 40!! but we got there slowly!

... warm, then rained again fairly seriously and got cold. We must have stopped at least 6 times to put on or take off items of apparel. Our final climb was up to Col Bayard at 1248 m. For the initiated, once you climb to one of these cols (we would call these passes) you then come down immediately on the other side, so if you have a another col to climb you are essentially starting all over again.
