What a day

The last night in Lyon we spent with the mother/ Pia, of a French girl, Chloe, who stayed with us recently. We dined in a tiny traditional bouchon that she had sought out. Her son and girlfriend joined in the fun - especially called on for their good English; Mireille was in her element conversing with the mother in French. The meal of many dishes was sensational and we were humbled by Pia insisting on paying for us all. We left there in heavy rain which made a comical ...

Day 45. Aspres. We are moving ever North

Asperes. Still in Rhone Valley/Provence. Aire is really nice, quite and spacious. Brilliant Services. Right next to tourist office. Good English. Run down town suffering from Serres, the next town along being a real tourist hot spot! But we liked it. As we go north the Aires thin out so we follow where the few are. It's funny and ironic. We choose a place to stay and then see several more un reported Aires along the way. This one ...

By the lakes

We are slowly wandering South. The aires in Savoie are not wonderful. Some are just scraps of land where the commune has put a Borne for which you have to buy tokens or taped off the electric points. We left Challes and drove just 30 km to La Cheylas. Reasonable aire, but noisy. Trains about half a mile away across a field and right next to a busy road. We only stayed for a night. Now we are at a campsite right on a lake. To get to it, we have come through ...

After a horrid nights sleep, with 3 of us not well, we left Asti and drove towards the French border and the formidable Alps. We encountered quite a few tunnels that we had to drive through with some being over 5kms long. At least this saved us having to wind our way through the mountains. Once again there were snow capped mountains on either side of us.

We entered into France and came across a little ski town in the French Alps that was covered in snow. Sophie ...

Paradise in the Mountains

With very little planning due to our hasty exit from ‘the dreaded workaway’, we decided to make our way towards the mountains in the Rhone Alpes as it was an area that was top of our ‘must see’ list and we really needed cheering up! Paul had managed to find a site that was open and very conveniently situated about 50m from the start of the iconic Alpe d’Huez mountain climb, made famous from the Tour de France, could this be more perfect? We had ...
