... magic here isn't necessarily just about Switzerland, it's about the Alps scenery and culture in general.

In fact, the first house I come across isn't a picture perfect chalet, it's a rather run down Swiss redneck sort of place!

It' a pretty quick descent, and I'm back below the treeline, in a dense forest following the river, until I reach the town of Splugen in good time. I'm safe. No danger of freezing to death on a treeless pass at night now. ...

... of mountain in front of me getting closer and closer.... past the last cluster of houses. From now on there's just a random cabin here and there, half dug in to the mountainside with a fence to keep cows from getting on the roof--just like in the stories! And then I spot it: another waterfall, tumbling in stages down the rocky mountainside. Well, the road runs on the other side of the gorge. The only way across is by a suspension bridge. It still doesn't seem like ...

... stone walls and trails I come across along my climb. Old sheep pens perhaps? Relics of another era, when people actually tried to live off of these rugged mountainsides? Finally it's time to make my slow descent, reminding myself that if I keep making wrong turns like this, I'm never going to make it to Switzerland. But I do... again... I take another unmarked trail which I assume will take me on up the gorge to the pass... no... the path ...

... trying to destroy the Muslim Brotherhood after they were legitimately elected by the people?" People can look at the same conflict and come to completely opposite conclusions. My guess is that the truth is somewhere in the middle... We chat a bit more, I tell him of some of my adventures wandering the Nile delta... then I continue on my way. I love how my travels become so interconnected... my Alps hike is now connected with my Egypt adventure of ...
