... happy polite well adjusted little people. However there is moments of reality....granddad says that this holiday is costing him 1 a minute, plus miscellaneous expenses (3000) so the family will enjoy themselves. And that's the reality, in a months time our Chalet will cost the occupants 2 a minute, to stay for a week. Yep 120 per hour. Work it out 2 x 60 x 24 x 7. GBP! Its a serious cheque book.

So what do we do.....wake at 6am, coffee, shower etc and ...

No notes, just that Refugio Berthone was at the top of a huge climb out of Courmayer. stopped for ice cream in town &a look around. Left Elizabetha lodge & walked along the Lac de Combal. Then straight up ...

Oops, no notes again! Refuge Elena quite new and modern. Large dorms but partitioned into bunks of 4. Located on a high ridge overlooking the valley, where we had a long break and arvo tea. Met some interesting groups of Italians, see the funny hats. It seems that all of Italy has these 2 weeks off, so the trails and refuges are full. Dinner in a lovely dining room, food pasta as usual. ...

... to mean that I was lost, when really I was just interested to know where I was (honest!). After a few hours though this charade became a little tiresome - I speak no German, he spoke very little English, and he appeared to lack a typical German sense of humour (despite the moustache). I drew out my next snack break to give Mr.Moustache a lengthened head start, ill advisably took this just ...

... 50 in total. It could not have been any easier (or cheaper). Given our last Buller experience, which was a lot of effort with little reward for Saskia, we decided that Saskia and I would stick to tobogganing today so that she'd come to have a more positive association with 'skiing'. She loves the snow and is constantly looking for a nice deep patch to throw herself into. Tobogganing was lots of fun, and we found a nice, steep slope ...
