... wonder what the history of these buildings is. Built in the 13th Century they’ve seen a lot of changes and different owners. Now they house postcards and toy swords. Sometimes I wonder what of our daily lives will be worthy of the history books…
The next day Brain was well enough to cycle. Thankfully it was an easier day rolling through a nice flat valley with a killer tail wind. Another wine region there were vines all ...
I've spent the last week in Montpellier. My grandparents moved out of their old apartment into a new one, and gave the old one to my dad. He is going to rent it out eventually, but for the time being, I was allowed to stay there. There wasn't much there...not much at all. Here is a list of the things that I had available to me:
1 bed
1 desk
1 mini fridge
1 TV
1 dvd player
1 bidet
That's it. There was no hot water ...
What a waste of a day...
Go to Nimes and the national parks people said..... we ended up at a campsite way out of Montpellier and the highlight of our day had been the supermarket!!!!
The national park was lots of farm type marsh land... not what we had imagined. Nimes seemed pretty and lots of well preserved Roman things but the traffic was a nightmare and too hard to park so we kept driving with a plan to go out in Montpellier that ...
... people. I have met so many people that have touched me emotionally, intellectually, or just made me laugh very hard. Out of the people I have met, only few I can call real friends that I would like to see again. Now, however, I have contacts in San Diego, Germany, Montana, Montreal, England, and Australia. All these people have extended an invitation to stay with them if I am ever in the area.
What I also ...
... magical silk hair. I will just pay the 20 euro application fee for applying the dye since I can’t do it in my crazy neurotic white perfect house. No way am I risking my life for a dye job. Id rather pay and get ripped off than dare risk the precious cleanliness of the house.
I made my way home where my hair sparkled like fairy dust from the French salon and blew in the wind like fine silk ...
Well, finally - after a false start setting out to pick up friends from Pau airport a day early! - first night: moored up alongside the Canal du Midi, just south of Beziers. Some very noisy ducks for company... Bit of a gloomy one weather-wise. Rained last night, but forecast suggests brightening up gradually as day goes on. Slowing our departure from ...
Villeneuve-lès-Béziers, Languedoc-Roussillon, France marcdolav... chatting with Laki the Hungarian. Now to those who don't know what a URAL motorbike is, it is EXACTLY a BMW R71 of 1940 with all the mod cons and accessories you would expect of the period - drum brakes all round and even a modern foot operated gear change! Made in Russia, cos it was Stalin that bought one, disassembled it and reverse engineered an entire factory to knock out replicas in order to mobilise his military ambitions. English is Laki's 2nd / 3rd / 4th language, but he ...
Sete, France barneyandpier... such monstrous water works that have stood for a couple millennia. It makes you wonder what the ruins of our empires will look like in a few thousand years. Will the hulks of our empty mega malls remind our distant descendants of our ability to build monstrous temples to consumerism and our need to have mexi fries with our cinnabons?
