... lunch and went on our way up the last 350m. We passed a number of other cycle tourists, actually that's not correct, they passed us, each of us exchanging grunts that resemble something similar to a 'hello' or 'almost there'. ... pass we go, Into a world of unknown. The climb begins with the usual switchbacks and steep corners, burning muscles and constant sweat dripping down our backs. I tell Kory that I'm nervous and feel intimidated but am mentally prepared this time to tackle this pass. ... we break it down, it either says the road is closed Monday-Friday from 0830-1730 FOR the next 9kms OR the road is closed Monday-Friday from 0830-1730 IN 9kms, open on the weekends..... Our plan is out the window, it is 1630 and we were both ready to call it a day. ... In a small village called Vallerio at Des Martin. This village was abandoned in the 50's & have recently been renovated to include refuges where hikers can stop for the night. We stayed in a apartment which has only been finished quite recently. The beautiful slate roofs & walls are an example of some excellent workmanship.
