... d decided to cross the bridge to get onto the Nice side of Le Var, we saw a signed cycle path that would apparently take us the final 16 km to Saint-Laurent-du-Var, hugging the western bank of the river.

We opted for the cycle path in the end, and didn't regret it. It's wide, flat and has a good surface, with very few cyclists on it, which meant we made good time. It stops just short of Saint-Laurent-du-Var.

We continued following our guide to Beautiful Villages of Provence and were never disappointed. Impossibly quaint and generally tiny - 5 minutes to explore each one! We saw very few people and the roads were quiet.
The mountains were quite intimidating. We are simply not used to such hugeness. Soaring limestone massifs, steep sided canyons, lush valleys and tons of ...

Visiting another country

After a horrid nights sleep, with 3 of us not well, we left Asti and drove towards the French border and the formidable Alps. We encountered quite a few tunnels that we had to drive through with some being over 5kms long. At least this saved us having to wind our way through the mountains. Once again there were snow capped mountains on either side of us.

We entered into France and came across a little ski town in the French Alps that was covered in snow. Sophie ...
