... at a very leisurely pace. Rapallo is a place we have visited before,.. in our 2000 trip,.. and we wanted to re-kindle the memories of that time so long ago. Well,.. not a lot has changed,.. but, being August, it is very, very busy. We found our campsite from 2000, for old times sake,.. and decided it was a better option to keep moving towards Genoa. A multi-car pile-up forced us off the autostrada, right into the heart of Genoa. It was a case of,.. get in,.. and get ...

The title says it all! Today we cycled from Valloire to Briancon over the Col du Galibier (2646m). The weather was against us pretty much all day, as we woke to pouring rain forcing us to drag everything inside and practically take over the sites shower block! We left several hours later with just croissants and pain au chocolats in our stomach. The climb up to the col was a relentless 17.5km at 7%, so blood ...

It's been a wet start and finish to our first wedding anniversary today. Best intentions for an early start we're delayed by heavy rain this morning, but we made the first 50km before lunch in great time and had a big lunch outside the supermarket in Saint Michel de Maurienne. Currently tucked in our tent, enjoying looking through the photos so far while the rain continues ...

... to go up the hill a bit to watch them struggle a bit, and to see what we would be like the following day. We saw them and before you knew it, the break away group had come and gone. Then a couple of minutes later the pack was there and then they were gone too. There were a few riders between the breakaway and the pack, but it would have been really horrible for these guys. For before the breakaway, you get lots of cars ...

... huge valleys are always a great reward for our efforts. That last 36km was on quite a busy road, one of those N roads once again. But the first part was still descending the mountain so it was nice and fast, but we eventually ran out of descent and had to actually pedal to get into Briancon. What an outrage! So we are taking a rest day tomorrow. We are going to go watch the riders in the Tour whizz through Briancon. Yay, we get to take it easy and watch other people ...
