... some pain, the first pain aux raisins of the tour and some tea. It was so hot on the terrace, such a contrast from our previous descent.

We reached our stop for the night, La Maison de Joséphine, by about 1:30pm. Unfortunately it was a 10 minute climb up from Guillestre, one which we repeated sans panniers when we went to search for a restaurant. We decided on a strategy of frequent stops to drink and snack. ...

... got better as we left behind the cloud cover on the top of the mountain, and the sun brought welcome relief from the freezing cold.

Once past the twisty bits, there is a long straight slightly undulating stretch that is perfect for tandems, and we were able to settle into a comfortable 35 kph and enjoy the scenery.

We stopped for a mint tea in Bessans, and then carried on the D902 then D1006 along the valley towards Termignon. ...
