Friday, Sept 12 - We were up early, took a cab to the Vatican (10 euros) for our tour. We started at 6:45 am with a wonderful full breakfast in the Pine Cone Garden of the Vatican. I had 3 cups of coffee. Much better than the tiny, lukewarm one I paid 2.5 euros for on Wednesday. After that at 8:00 Sara, our guide from Ireland, led 18 of us into the Vatican Museum. Not sure that the kids were appropriately respectful of the site, choosing to climb onto the ruins, rather than merely observe them but they had fun and plenty of other people followed their lead. ... closer the way we walked the day before was closed off, and we heard someone say that the Basilica was closed...and the crowds got thicker and thicker, and the number of school groups grew and grew! We soon gave up on heading into the square in front of the basilica, and took a walk down the street leading up to it.
