... 1 night in Noyers, 2 hours drive then we have 3 nights in Reims (Champagne area). It was pretty good but the rain meant day 1's drive was more like 5 hours....but the hotel in La Mure was fab. Only 2 or 3 stars (depending what you read) but good internet, comfy bed and sensational shower. It was fast and long, we dropped ...

The ride up to the Notre dame is just as impressive as the cliff cut road that we rode on from the back of the Sereene Climb. The views were spectacular and the feeling of exposure was real. The cliffs from the road fall away about ...

Rochefort

Next day we travelled on through the Vendee and Charente Maritime regions with an evening stay at Rochefort. A very interesting town, haunt of Cardinal Richilieu, and built as a naval defence base by Louis XIV. Much more our style, because it was small enough to walk about admiring the historic buildings and to see the pleasure harbour, and small commercial port. And it's the French home of oysters... Which they grade and sell like good ...
