... a great chat with two Dutch climbers - my roommates - who have explained my route in great detail and given me some very useful tips, including making it a three-day journey instead of the two I had planned (yet more Chemin angels?). I'm now off to watch the Brazil vs Netherlands 3rd place match with my new friends, so there goes my early night.

We just finished the tour du Mont Blanc - 180km, 3 countries, 9 days! Also some sore feet by the end...
actually it was probably some of the nicest hiking we have ever done - stayed in some lovely hotels and mountain refuges, ate amazing food each day, good wine each night!
Think Andy was a bit de estates to be in Chamonix in summer rather than winter, but ...

Once at the bottom I passed through a nice ski village and then realized that in planning my route I had inadvertently added another pass, the Col de la Aravis, which was 10km long and averaged 5%. We started our way on the autobahn towards Switzerland. We managed to get the Audi up to just over200km/hr at a few spots but any more was impossible with the traffic. One thing we found interesting was that most German made vehicles don't have model numbers on the back.
