... control recently has broken down, this was the perfect sign to follow, where I planed to cross the border to Switzerland.

Just arrived in late afternoon to Aosta, I was not only already entered to the italian part of the alps but also to the point of good bye. Here I decided not to spend another night in Italy and crossed the border to my homecountry Switzerland a hour later at Calle del Gran San Bernardo.

BIENVENUE EN SUISSE - WELCOME TO SWITZERLAND
Liddes, Valais, Switzerland pajas... a glimpse of a massive glacier on our way to the mountain and later got a great view from a peak further down the ridge. I saw a glacier this summer in Montana's Glacier Nat'l Park but I have to say that despite the parks breathtaking views, its glaciers were hardly impressive compared to Chamonix. This was a legit, man eating, climber scaling, cavernous abyss kind of glacier. We were able to take a gondola that ascended the peak parallel to the glacier some 12,000 feet. After nearly ...
Chamonix, Rhône-Alpes, France ehuard... into MacD's and decided a big mac meal for 6 euros would hit
the spot. This was a very unique McDonalds, done up in
mountaineering theme and was located out of the way, as for 2 ½
visits to Chamonix, I did not know it was there. After lunch I
wandered around town for a bit as it started to brighten. Back to
the room to read and ready for dinner, although I was not hungry
after the meal at the arches. I headed out for dinner, still not
hungry and after seeing a ...
Chamonix, Rhône-Alpes, France nedk... road for two cars and few guard rails. I made it back to
Chamonix and headed to town for a beer and found the “Sports
Bistro” for a couple of beers. A guy sat down next to me and we
started chatting, he was a local and gave me some of the local lore.
Language was not an issue as most French speak some English. He told
me a movie crew was in town staying at the Hotel des Alpes and it was
rumored that it was a Clint Eastwood flick, maybe I will run ...
Chamonix, Rhône-Alpes, France nedk... half bottle of wine at dinner, so realistically, we barely drank anything. I told them we had 1 glass of wine each at dinner ( to make things simple), but they still made Jon blow into this gimmicky balloon and it showed that Jon was over the 0.025 limit. That kind of freaked us out, because we had no idea that the limit was a lot more strict in France. So they say that Jon needs to go back to the station with them to do a real ...
Chamonix, Rhône-Alpes, France sofenjon... the hotel, with the gauntlet of the speed indicator well and truly slapped around our face and thrown on the floor - we had to attempt the speed indicator record again - after several attempts - Rich and Gary managed 24kph, but Kev in flip flops, one of which came off the rim, managed a cool 25kph on his first run!
The mating call of the beast did not disturb our chinless wonders that night - alcohol was to deliver a peaceful nights sleep...zzzzzzzzz
Chamonix, Rhône-Alpes, France minipooper... l;on peut remplacer par de l,Emmental). La ville etait charmante qvec ses rue en dalles de pierres et ses petites boutiques. Chamonix, Rhône-Alpes, France josh_m_54... up 300m to the top of a ski resort. Climbed another 200m and sped down the other side of the valley on a proper downhill track! That was REAL fun!!! We even managed to stop into switzerland (about 5m inside the border, but we went to switzerland). We then had another 300m gradual climb on road back into the Chamonix valley. My legs were like lead, but I was determined not to get off and push. It took ages and I had to just sit there and keep peddling ...
Chamonix, France tommy... to read a chapter of Moby Dick to any who would listen (me). Our good intentions for cooking our own dinner were shot down in flames by the discovery that the supermarket was closed by the time we'd finished our laundry, so we made do with a cheapish lasagne/spaghetti meal at a nearby pizza joint. We were a little non-plussed to be joined in our dormitory at 10pm by two late-arriving American ...
