We decided to revisit Orvieto, leaving much earlier, to allow quality time "browsing-shopping".

The "old city" is situated high up on the hill overlooking the newer city.

You access the "old city" by way of the Funicolare .... This is by far the easiest and quickest route as parking is scarce up in the old city....this is much more fun too!

... about 15 minutes away where there is a giant Prada outlet store. Lovely clothes, bags, shoes etc but so very expensive. Even though we can get 30% discount off with cousin’s daughter – we have decided against this. So then we decided to ring and drop in on my Zia Nanina – which was lovely although she is consistently dominating in a sweet manner. Still raining we came home to cook our own dinner for a change. ... tour during which a good English-speaking guide took us into the carved out caves where ages ago they used to make olive oil, wine and have a pigeon industry. Apparently there are thousands of these caves under the city of Orvieto. We also saw various museums of religious artefacts and the Etruscan archaeological findings. ... milk, cereal for P alas no salted butter in Italy, it takes some getting used to and unsalted bread is equally bland.

They say desperate people do desperate things....the lunch restaurant today served the best bread we have had....it was of course, salted, so more than we could consume at lunch....we brought the unused bread home with us! Is that desperation status, I ask you?
