Like Hannibal and his elephants we took it upon ourselves to traverse the mighty Alps in our trusty Citroen. Driving over the Col du Glandon on our way to the village of Le Bourg D'Oisains we arrived just as the weekly markets were about to open.

A tasty breakfast of brioche and grande cafe at the local boulangerie and we were set for shopping and cycling. A visit to the local cycle shop to enquire about climbing the Alpe was in order as conditions were terrible, pouring rain ...

I made it to Thones climbing the Col De Bluffy however by then I was soaked through. My rain booties and gloves had given up and became water capsules, I couldn't warm up and still had to climb over 1400 metres.

The Alps beat me ...

... a bit disappointing really and had us wishing for the breakfast we'd become so accustomed to. I made a mental note not to joke about the breakfasts any more. There were two table fulls of 60'ish year old Netherlanders that were deafeningly loud, proving the theory of the Belgium folks that we'd met the evening before.

As we made our way back to the room, Connie pointed out an interested fact. She was too short to kick ...
