Just when we thought Venice was the most beautiful place we would visit in Italy, Varenna may have beaten it into second place. Neither of us can get our heads round the fact that we are actually seeing what's around us. The apartment is amazing and the views from the balcony alone are worth the trip. Claire has also befriended a blind cat so we keep having to think of excuses to go and see the lady so Claire can rub the cat.

... building on the cement and ate crackers and snacks, and talked for a couple of hours to wait out the worst of the downpour. Places were actually getting flooded that night! Thankfully the rain stopped the next morning. We went and saw the very famous leaning tower of Pisa. It was actually quite beautiful. We ate our breakfast there as we gazed in awe at the architectural wonder. From Pisa we headed right for Cinque Terra, a wonderful place on the coast ...

What another truly spectacular day it has been today. Once again the weather was sunny and beautiful despite being a little cooler and less humid than yesterday. After breakfast in the magnificent room that really seems to be wasted for just this purpose as it is so long and vast with the most wonderful ceiling, we departed on foot for the pier which is just a few minutes walk away to catch the 9 am private boat across the lake ...

... and decide what gets washed and what doesn't was a nail biter as we just wanted it ALL clean again. These are just the kind of decisions I don't have to make back home as washers in the U.S. are 5x the size. I felt like this one was as big as a salad spinner. After the teeny load was done - it also takes like 90 minutes for it to cycle through - we hung it all over our room to dry and left for the adventure of the day. One thing about where we are staying is that it is at ...

        Off to Bellagio

Barbara made us crepes this morning!!! Today was the day we would go to Bellagio, a more touristy town a bit further north from Como. We had looked at buying ferry tickets the previous 2 days but both times the line had been quite long and the price was a bit steep too. After looking up about the bus service running we decided to take the bus instead. Not only was it much cheaper but the road hugs the coast the whole way so we ...
