Monterosso on Cinque Terre via Milan and Genova

After a less than pleasant night, John had a late breakfast and we checked out. Apart from the food episode it was a great place to stay and we would recommend the Grand Imperiale Hotel as a good place to base yourself to see Lake Como (but don't eat at Cafe Bellini - a couple of doors down!) Anyway about 11am we were picked up by our next driver who took us in a Mercedes minibus to Milan Railway station. Boy was the station busy! We arrived with a good hour to spare and John had ...

Today was a rest day. MAfter a late breakfast at 9:30 we organised ourselves and decided to go to the next village for a look around. We took the ferry to Cernobbio via Torno so zigged across the lake then back again towards Como. As with anywhere on the lake, it was once again, very picturesque. As we alit, we noticed that there was a market in progress. What luck! It sounded a bit like Victoria Market of old with all the fresh fruit ...

I actually thought I was getting a little motion sickness ...

Next we bought tickets for the ferry and headed off on the river for a two hour trip to Bellagio with our guide. He pointed out important places like Versace's villa, George's villa, Ric************'s villa and lots of others. It rained most of the time but wasn't cold. The low lying cloud was quite picturesque though. We ...

Plan B.

Plan A is scrapped due to rain. I had reserved a 19 ft center console with a little 40hp Suzuki to tool around the lake for the day and visit some of the small towns that cling on steep hillsides to the waterfront. However, it's pouring out and the forecast for the rest of the day is not looking promising. So it's off by ferry to the main town of Como. First stop is to get a rain jacket and an umbrella, More stuff ...
