    ... use the canal. Cruise ships are charged by the number of people on board so our ship, if it was going through, would have to pay something around $300,000US. The larger container ships could be charged as much as $1,000,000US to pass through the 8 hour trip. We drove down to the Pedro Miguel locks to get a close up look at the locks and watch the ships travel through.     It is nearly a three hour drive. The bus has mostly Australians on board. One family are catching the same flight home as us and like us they are not looking forward to the trip. The bus drops some off at Lego land others at Sea world and us at the zoo.
