I'm sitting at my desk and setting up this blog- one of many things I'm doing this week to get ready for my trip. While I'm gone, I won't have access to my american cell phone, but I will have some limited email and facebook access. This blog is where I plan on updating most folks while on the trip. Check back here from time to time for new entries and hopefully some photos, too.

A, Texas, United States gomadI just bought a car, and I am going to fly to California, pick it up and drive back to Fort Bragg, NC. I am a relatively new driver, just having my first driver's license for a little over two months. I have been fooling around on GoogleMap trying to find a nice route. I plan on making these stops: Los Angeles, CA Ft Irwin, CA Las Vegas, NV somewhere in NM prob the ...
Fort Bragg, North Carolina, United States massagewallah... crew were duly called..... We were underway at 0715 and made good time across the Neuse River into the Adams Creek Canal. We were rolled nearly on our beam ends by a large power boat that did not slow down while overtaking us. The boat was contacted on channel 16 and informed he was operating his vessel in an unsafe manner etc. We arrived at Morehead City early and as we have both been to Morehead City and Beaufort before we had decided to make a good run for the day to make up for ...
Onslow Beach, North Carolina, United States darbornMan! What a day. The drive from Chattanooga to the Smokey Mountians National Park and on to the Blue Ridge Parkway was spectacular. The Changing leaves were lush with color. We really enjoyed it. We got to Asheville late. I am never too graceful about time zones. I hope I can load up some of the days photos.
Asgeville, North Carolina, United States bobcoyle... Lincoln Memorial and getting lost again we found a motel. So on Monday the 6th we took a cab to Memorial Bridge, nearly got hit by Mr. Prez chopper and start ed our tour to the famouse DC things: DC was absolutely awesome, but after half a day of walking around and the motel price that went up by $50,- for another night we decided to head out. So of to Harpers Ferry, which is a quaint little town on that ...
Ashville, North Carolina, United States klompjes-krautz... we set off, it was a beautiful day and the drive up to the car park was wonderful, the views spectacular. You can really see why they are called the Blue Ridge! We parked Toad and did the last little bit of a climb via a short trail, which in itself was lovely, dappled shade and lots of roots and boulders. Despite having my walking boots in the car I still had my sandals on as the beginning ...
Grandfather Mountain, North Carolina, United States malbetFor the first part of our European journey, we will be joined by long time Purdue friends, Lydia and Jerry Beehler. We have loved having them as travel companions to London, Paris and our favorite short destination, Las Vegas several times.
Maggie Valley,, North Carolina, United States joycemiles... kept waking me up. They had a list of activities that were going to happen over the weekend that sounded like fun, but by 11am we found out otherwise. The fishing tourney didn't have a prayer of anyone catching anything over about 4"; the all-u-can-eat breakfast buffet didn't have very much food; the arts'n'crafts "class" was aimed at very young children and was held in the game room building that should have been labeled "Sauna" with no A/C and was well over 100 ...
