We woke up this morning to the news that Fidel Castro, leader of Cuba since the revolution of January 1959, had died during the night aged 90. With 9 days' mourning imposed in Cuba, what a good job we were not still there. However, it would have been amazing to have still been in Miami where the Cuban expat community spent all night celebrating. …

We took a beautiful drive out to Wakulla Springs and River – the trees are turning golden and the scenery is gorgeous. Wakulla Springs has the deepest natural freshwater spring in North America, and that section of the river is used for swimming and diving from high boards. A long drive to Tallahassee where
Christopher is in Law School (Florida State College) and where we will be
          spending Thanksgiving together. We do
345 miles with Granny in the car with us.
She is amazing for 80 and climbed into the 3rd row of seats
without even a grimace or creaking joint.
          We have rooms (suites) …

... Interesting to us was the fact that access to the beach in Bay St. Louis was limited, because there was no parking. They built a cement walk just beside the road leaving no shoulder, and reserved the space on the other side to walkers and bikers. So we were not able to park and go to the beach. I guess it must be reserved for the people who live in the houses across the street or anyone who can walk there or ride a bike.
