Commander's Palace deserves the great reputation it "commands". Any foodie will love the soups, and mains. Do not miss the bread souffle, with the delious accompanying sauce. The city has recovered from Katrina quite well, with the French Quarter and Garden District showing now signs of damage. In fact the French Quarter is now cleaner than ever and tourism is back on the upswing
New Orleans, Louisiana, United States leon323... the huge spider the size of your hand living with you, he won't bother you!
We planned on staying near Pensacola but Hurricane Ida stuck us in a motel and motoring on to Shepard State Park in Mississippi for 4 days. Of course, 4 days was enough to find the 1 PERFECT (and I do mean PERFECT) bar & a great bartender named Dave! One Eyed Ron's in Gautier (Go-she-A). $1 Bottled bud light and free jello shots for Monday Night ...
... Lisa's one last mission as our foodie tour guide to New Orleans was to make sure we picked up a mufuletta for the flight home. A mufuletta it turns out is an enormous round of bread stuffed with ham, salami, cheese and olive salad, it was really nice but I was v thankful that they sold halves as even that was hard to get through!
So that was New Orleans - it is a really beautiful and graceful city, while there are a number of grand ...
... you have to walk over a bank (I assume it also acts as a levy in floods), then the rail tracks and a car park. At the river there was a busker who would occasionally pick up his sax and play snatches of jazz. At one point he jumped up and serenaded a tourist couple and I've attached a short recording. Unfortunately I missed recording the parade with music from the back of a pick up or the brass band playing When the Saints. But this really underscorse my experience of New ...
New Orleans, Louisiana, United States hannah.goanna... yep, thatīs where we stayed & got nice & sloshed! We went for dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe & stumbled back to the hotel. We both really liked it here, just walking the streets is really pleasant with Jazz music playing everywhere & lots of people around. 21/03 - We left New Orleans today to head back to Dallas just for a stop over. It was a thrilling afternoon of laundry & internetting!!
New Orleans, Louisiana, United States kristenjohn... Omelets prepared as you watch . . . with bacon, tomatoes, onion, cheese, peppers . . . as you wish. Smooth, perfect coffee, fresh cream. Impeccable service, an atmosphere reminiscent of past lives on Southern plantations far upriver. Indulge.
... coffee while eating beignets, I have no clue! All I know is, my cupboard never misses out on a can of 'the coffee of the world' since then. It's ALL ABOUT JAZZ! I could not think of anything 'cooler' to do than sit by the patio of a restaurant across Old Jackson Square, drinking my own hurricane and listening to a man playing the saxophone. Louis Armstrong had always been my favorite. Yes.. an old soul, indeed. I do see skies are blue ...
New Orleans, Louisiana, United States pinaynola... a chance to have your pic taken with the polar bear, which we watched other people go and do, i decided to have mine done ..... when the thing jumped out at me!! i must have looked so funny jumping like that, but it hadnt moved and we all thought it was a statue!!! They also have the 4d cinema which is all about the magic of coca cola - basically trying to make everyone think of it as a nice family business that cares, when basically it is a massive money ...
New Orleans, Louisiana, United States debbielockett... m going somewhere I try and take a different route. Today I planned on parking in the Central Business District to the west of Canal Street. So instead of coming from the north as per the other days I decided to come from the west. What I hadn't planned on is that the Parades take place in the various neighbourhoods. Driving cross country, so to speak, I ended up on a Parade route. My timing was right on again as the Parade must have just ended. The street was ...
New Orleans, Louisiana, United States cobra1899... Quarter and we took the motel's free van to and from the city. The van driver was drunker than we were most of the time. We were warned to make sure we only took the motel's van. Apparently there was a scam where people would offer you a ride in what looked like a hotel van or taxi and they would drive you to the badder parts of town and rob you.
