Who knew I'd enjoy Montgomery, AL as much as I did...

It all began when we pulled into our hotel. I've come to expect a very standard room by now, but when we got to our floor and opened the door, I was pleasantly greeted by a really nice room. They had recently renovated the hotel, and clearly hired some sort of Feng Shui decorator. I loved it. Everything was crisp and clean, but with warm touches ...
Montgomery, Alabama, United States tourdevOctober 28, 2009

We drove on over to Marney's house where the three of us got into her car with Marney as our Montgomery, AL tour guide.

First stop...Dreamland BBQ, the famous BBQ franchise that I've heard about for years. The atmosphere was relaxed and the large photos on the wall gave me the feeling that we were in a bluesy (blue-zee) BBQ in the heart of the south. The ribs and pulled pork were delicious and the waitress ...

When she looks at a horse drinking trough, she sees a container garden! She uses her imagination in everything and the evidence is everywhere. Crafts being made for her St. John’s Church’s Christmas bizarre sit in different states of completion on any available surface. Jars of homemade relish and pepper vinegar are paked in boxes or sitting out for display in her well used kitchen. It ...
Montgomery, Alabama, United States jodieandandy... For ten years she has been the most successful club in Montgomery and has been given awards by Montgomery for her business savvy and community mindedness. Marney has given Metro Fitness a sleek organized style that is clever in the use of materials and space (see pix). Andy and I felt welcomed by the space itself as we both found numerous classes we wanted to take. Had we stayed anymore days, we would have been taking Yoga and Pilates, using the exercise ...
Montgomery, Alabama, United States jodieandandy... More later..

Once in Montgomery I decided to take a ride through town. I'm glad I did. I visited the state capital and the church that Martin Luther King preached at. More importantly that same church was the meeting point for many of the rallies in support of the the bus boycott which was sparked by Rosa Parks. I also visited the Rosa Parks museum and the spot where the bus bench sat.

I also rode by the first white house the Jefferson ...

This was not an easy task and she scurried out as quickly as she could.

In the afternoon, my cousin Frankie saddled up some of the horses and Alex got to go for a little ride. Then there was more swimming and even time to hold one of Uncle D's new baby ducks...a father's day gift from his daughters.

We had a very peaceful and relaxing visit and can't wait to go back again.
Prattville, Alabama, United States hollyesparza... Oreo cookie and cream cheese balls dipped in chocolate...decadence. While Jackie was cooking, we walked down to the barn so Alex could help feed the horses. Tori & Bella were very intrigued with these new creatures and weren't quite sure how to approach them. It was a funny site.

Prattville, Alabama, United States hollyesparza... to fall forward exposing emptiness behind. Immediately post leaving the town square is ghetto. It was late and weird. We cross the Chattahoochee at Eufaula into Alabama and (passing Batesville which Ted says is the home to Norman Bates' hotel from Psycho) continued on to the State capital Montgomery where, after waking the nice lady manager out of deep slumber, we found a near empty field/RV park. Day 27, May 29th We arranged a ...
Montgomery, Alabama, United States tednims... the best cat-herders in the business" treat us so well. We are staying at this Renaissance Hotel and Spa- this hotel is one of the most incredibly lush hotels I have ever seen. We are being pampered like the rock stars we are, I guess. We went on a trolley ride around historic Montgomery which was a huge treat. Having a wonderful time- wish you were here HA HA
Montgomery, Alabama, United States dwolf1... giving his sister money for more drugs, and so on. It was a loud, rocking N.O. night. I left the hotel this morning with mixed emotions- I feel a little older and far away from the wild twenty year old I was. Not that I am sad about this, but it just marks more time passing for me. I did enjoy the energy, the abandon, the zest that is everywhere in N.O. But I also noted that that all comes from tourists bent on a little hedonism and oblivion- the residents seem to be a ...
