    Sitting in the Star Alliance lounge in LA
    Managed to get upgrades to Business Premier from Auckland to London. Leah managed to sleep for about 5 or 6 hours on and off, definitely more comfortable

    We boarded on Deck 7 which was convenient because we are on Deck 8 but my dad doesn’t do well with stairs, so we took the elevator up, checked out our cabins, wiped everything down with Chlorox wipes, changed out the Elite bar set-up (all for Diet Coke of course!) and then headed up to Deck 15.     Day 1 - I felt happy when we landed in LA. We checked into our new hotel. At first I thought it was bad because of the smell, but then I went into our rooms and it was quite fantastic. We went on the Metro trains to Hollywood Vine Station and walked along the Hollywood Walk of Fame. I saw the Hollywood sign and also saw some characters from movies.     ... eight miles down and nine miles back up.

    Food... don’t take a cooker, save weight. Boiled eggs and pasta salad, muesli bars and baby carrots for three days.

    Sleeping... bed rolls, share 2 sleeping bags between us and no tent because it’s going to be hot . Bugger - night before departure it’s cold and raining so quick change of plan - take all 4 sleeping bags and our massive not suitable for hiking 5.5 kilo tent.
