They will probably wag their tongues at us for not actually going to the Stampede when we are so close.

Some of our fellow travelers promised some spectacular scenery from Calgary to our next stop, Lake Louise in the Banff National Park, and, boy, were they right! We have an abundance of pictures and videos of mountains. They are so magnificent, we just can’t ...

Started Pack for Canmore

... to compete!) This is a celebration of all things Scottish, and a festive air prevails. Heavy sports, wee heavy sports, sheep-dog trials, massed pipe bands, and Highland dancing - oh yes, and an evening Ceilidh (dance) with Celtic music - are some of the highlights. One weekend later is Canmore's Rocky Mountain Half-Marathon and Eight-Kilometre Race, a yearly competition that attracts athletes from many places to enjoy the stunning scenery along a ...

Snow in Banff!!

... to the info centre. The man there was very helpful and suggested that we hike up Sulpur the following day. he gave us lots of alternatives including tunnel mountain which according to ben is the smallest peak in the Rockies. It was a nice gentle climb to the summit which gave us views for most of the way. We saw a female elk part of the way up which looked great in the snow. I tried to get a phoo but my camera is too ...

Thank goodness for Parents!

... that yet, I still keep pretty much all of them. Moving on....... to Lake Louise. Again the expanse was stunning and I was happy to see it in summer as well as winter too. More photosJ Our next stop was Bow Lake, just a brief stop here but I wanted to also point out some of the glaciers to Mum and Dad. Even though it was summer, there were still glaciers that we could see up in the mountains. Never guess what our next stop was.... yep ...

Well and truly back in Banff - July

... patience was required when people arrived as the first sentence was pretty common - 'Wow, you guys weren't kidding about construction'. Times were trying, especially when dealing with complaints and unhappy guests and also dealing with water and power shut-offs (sometimes not expected). It was not always bad and we still got good feedback and had some good laugh with guests as well. During this time I still continued to assist Chris with some planning and ...

... was a load of bollochs. I could of drove to the lookout area in a ****** fiesta and they had us in a 4x4 monster bus some rip off. We had a few words to no end. Getting back from Jasper we got on a bus straight away to Calgary and went for a drink in none other than an Irish bar. Mike and me were stayin in the HI hostel in probably the dodgiest area of town. Bums and addicts roamed freely across the street. Poppy out from door unexpectedly asking ...

Snowmobiling and Work, etc

... we are coming up to a really busy period and we are a little short staffed. I am getting there and seem to be picking up things reasonably quickly, but I have to try and master the system so I can check people in and out. My manager seems happy with my progress to date and is asking me to do a little project of sorts I supposed you would call it. As a new comer (and apparently due to my previous work background) he would like me to note down anything I can ...

More Adventures in the Rockies

... that most travellers would miss. The Glacier walk was great, the guide Jasmine really knew her stuff. She has been touring and mountainering for 5 years. She lead us up the Glacier and talked through the dangers of the ice. I was shocked to see people walking their little children onto the snow (which is the most dangerous place for caverns) in inapproriate clothing. That night we were all mozzie bait, we went and hid in the tents early.
