On The Border

Our first full day in Brownsville, TX...I am working this week, so most of my day is spent at the hotel. Jerry visits with his parents in the morning, then picks up the kids to do something fun in the afternoon.

Today was a quiet day. We went to see Jerry's parents, then drove out to San Padre Island to have dinner at Amberjack's. I had a fabulous surf 'n' turf dinner with filet mignon and Alaskan King Crab legs...yummmm!!

Dinner took a long time to arrive at our table, so of co...

Beach Fun

It is always a must to spend some time on South Padre Island. SPI is located about 20 minutes from Brownsville. Alex now knows about the "beach". He did not want to leave.

This was the girls first visit to the beach. They thought it was okay, but would have enjoyed it more off leash. I did find a quiet area to let them off leash for a little while so they could romp in the sand. Once again, they stole the show. Everyone that we passed just loved them.

The girls were completely e...

Sighting the Rifle In.

Meghan and I were able to shoot the 300 Mag. in this afternoon. We were not able to find and Elk life size target for practice, but had to settle for this Whitetail Deer. She shot this target and scored in the Harvest Zone from 100, 200, 250 & 300 Yards.
All we need now is the Elk to walk out in front of her once we are hunting.

Our Last Night on the Border

Hello All. We have really enjoyed our stay in Brownsville, TX to visit Jerry's parents. We don't see them often and it is always bittersweet when the visit nears an end.

We went out for a casual dinner with the parents and Jerry's brother, Juan, and wife Vivian. Then it was back to the hotel to begin packing up our belongings.

No turning back!

... the way to the Matamoros bus station - which was far! It took us a few minutes to figure out how to navigate the bus station, but we finally did. We got our visa papers from Mexican Customs, and immediately boarded the first bus to Monterrey! Once on the bus we felt fairly safe, and even dozed off for a few hours! There's no turning back now!

Our Mexican Odyssey began in Brownsville, TX

We had to do a few modifications to fit our needs (like making a 'bedroom' for me and adding some storage), but we finally got it like we like it.

Along the Border

Ok, we've made it to the border town of Brownsville, TX. We abandoned our initial plans to cross into Mexico at Laredo after hearing reports of mischevious behavior taking places there (a.k.a. murders). Along the way, we became well-acquainted with Corpus Christi where our friend and travel compadre, Chris "Little Ronnie" Dinwiddie ...

It's La Border, Hombre

One reason I'm taking the coastal route of course is that I’ve already done the Laredo Route, including police fine for littering, so this is new. Who knows what you’ll find around every bend, right? Also there’s a dirt cheap flight from Harlingen to Houston ...
