Good Morning Vancouver So we are near the boot of Italy tonight. Out on the coast at a small sort of B & B called Borgo di Santa Barbara. It is a few Kms past Tropea and not like the one closely named the same in California. In fact we are within sight of the sea, within meters of the railway line and within fewer meters of 6 goats and a rooster who thought it was morning about 5:30 when we arrived. We wanted to flee the touristy areas and guess what...we have. ...

So, we have not had any wifi access since leaving Amalfi on Thursday! I'm typing this on a tiny Samsung, so please forgive any typing or formatting errors. We left the wonderful Settebello Hotel and the family that run it at 10am on Thursday to set off for Sicily. The plan was to drive as much of the 450km distance as possible before overnighting somewhere in Calabria. We found a place in Zambrone on Booking.com ...

      Mammola day 2

... some places weren't open on Tuesday afternoon and it reminded us of Filomena saying never travel on a Tuesday. The restaurant Moulin Rouge wasn't open so we went to Le Bottiga de Sapori. It had everything Stocco. The waiter had lived in Canada so he had good English. He sorted my no carne no pesche dilemma and then just kept bringing out dishes for Don to enjoy Stocco in many different ways. It was in oil, a tomato bean mix, thinly sliced, ...

... ravioli. We ended up with an extra salad of roast vegetables though. Whilst eating two men came in and one started to chat to Don about his relatives. He wrote down his connection to Lisa through Paulo in Canada. I think a nephew?? Other people ventured in and it felt like you were the exhibit in a zoo- the strange Australians lol. Just when we thought we could leave Don got convinced to have an espresso and limoncello. Our bill arrived and was only !! Unbelievably ...

      Isola di Capo Rizzuto- Mammola

... a local who kindly drove us to the accommodation. A 2 1/2 hour trip plus stops was 6 hours. We were the only guests and they didn't speak English. So Don again came to the rescue with his Italian. We had dinner early and ordered no carne or peschie for me. Don had the local signature dish of Stocco fish. We ended up with 8 plates of food. I needed up wrapping 7 fritters in serviettes for lunch the next day. They think that if you are vegetarian you will starve so they overfeed ...
