Our day in Castiglioncello,.. rain, thunder and lightning ,.. we had it all. Sitting in the Motorhome,.. watching the rain come down,.. is really calming. I have to share a funny story,.. As the afternoon wore on,.. and the rain got heavier,.. It appeared that the gutter outside out campsite blocked up and the water backed up into our campsite. It created quite a stream and started to erode the gravel surface of the site. Our Resident Manager called 'the council' to report ...

... were running low. Then about 4km from the top the temperature plummeted and the rain continued in ernest. We were shivering so much our bikes were shaking! Thankfully once over the top there was a little cafe where we hid for a while drinking hot chocolate and eating ham and cheese omelettes. We made it safely back to the valley where it was glorious sunshine and we laid everything out to dry. Phew. An exhausting ...

It's been a wet start and finish to our first wedding anniversary today. Best intentions for an early start we're delayed by heavy rain this morning, but we made the first 50km before lunch in great time and had a big lunch outside the supermarket in Saint Michel de Maurienne. We then climbed Col du Telegraphe and the rain started again just as we arrived into camp in Valoire. Currently tucked in our tent, enjoying looking through the photos so far while the rain continues ...

We then walked to the start of the Col de L'Izoard. where we waited for the Tour de France to arrive. During the 1.5 hours for the riders to get to our location, the sun came out, then it rained then it was cloudy. But that didn't deter any of the crowds, who lined the streets throughout the city to watch the race go past. ...

... we would have to wait a further 45 minutes. We slipped into Bourg du Oisans for a coffee and croissant. Then rolled back to the bus. The drive was amazing up to the lauturet. Climbing 2000 vertical metres. Dave had his first experience with a French squat toilet and came back out to ask for instructions of how to use it. The climb from Lauturet was breathtaking, ...
