Island of Vulcano
... night. We stopped here 3 years ago with Phil and Lesley on board from Wellington and very little has changed. The sulphur smell is still the same, the mud pools look smaller, maybe the mud has been used up. The sea still bubbles and is 28 degrees. But the best thing is we don't have to walk to the crater rim as we did that 3 years ago.

After climbing the Fossa di Vulcano on the island of Vulcano, I was quite terrified of the height of Stromboli. At 924m, Stromboli is over twice the size of the Fossa di Vulcano.
The boat Miriana, with Da Massimo tours again, left at midday and headed straight to the island of Panarea. Panarea is a more upmarket island in the Aeolian's. Its main hotel is the Hotel Raya often housing celebrities.

Monique and Allan were great at making me forget about the heights but they are crazy Swiss people who walk on the edge of the trail, unlike me who hugged the wall!
