Today we took the SLOW train to Riomaggiore. The train to our transfer spot, St Stefan had about 6 cars and was the oldest looking train we had ever seen. It stopped at little stations about every 10 mins. You get what you pay for. But again it left right on time. Another new experience. Before the train, we splurged on the hotel breakfast. We had been eating food we bought, in our room but today we knew we would be on the train for lunch. ...
... Most have baskets and/or saddlebags. I wish we could have gotten a picture of the chef, in his uniform, riding back from the market with his basket full of beautiful produce. The cherries and tomatoes are in season and have been very tasty. Grandmas, mothers, business people, kids, all ages and stages ride bikes. It helps that the traffic is mostly slow, the streets wide and most have bike lanes. This is our last day in Parma. Given ...
... and a museum which sadly was only partially open due to lack of staff to supervise the galleries. A highlight was the Teatro Farnese, a totally wooden theatre which was virtually destroyed in the bombing in 1944. It has been largely restored to its original condition. An amazing structure. ... some fruit, rolls cheese and salami. There is a food festival this weekend so will try some of the local delicacies. Written the next morning....Oh what a night! It is ok to read on, as we are referring to dinner. We went to the premier restaurant in Parma, called I Parizzi. It is a hotel/restaurant/cooking school. And even though the kids' inheritance is notably smaller, it was the best meal we have ever had. We did not take pictures. The room was cellar-like but ...
