I am a real fan of Trip Advisor, "reviews by real travelers," so when I saw that Castle Hill was rated #1 of 103 rated attractions in Nice, I decided I would give it a go. It was even walking distance from my apartment, more or less. Now that I had food, I could pack a little French-style picnic lunch-- some cheese in a half of a buttered baguette, some slices of dried sausage (saucisse sèche, which I selected in the supermarket ...

... of the monument and its restoration was very informative. My mom and I climbed the stairs to the summit of the Trophie, where we surveyed the view. From there one could see Monte Carlo, the area, and on the horizon, the limits of Italy.

Our next destination was Menton, near the Franco-Italian border, known for its fame as a vacation spot and its citruses. The Cote d'Azur, and Menton, were not popular until the nineteenth century, when members of ...

... yappy dogs. The stay has not begun favourably. We also learn that the concierge has a particular dislike of labradors. Previous French municipal campsites have been very helpful, this is an exception.

Adjacent to the camp site with views over Menton and the sea, is a small restaurant. French food, as usual, revitalises the spirit and Monsieur et Madame look forward to the visit to Menton. Sunday morning, we walk down steep steps for over ...

... steak house. The ship has 3 specialty restaurants onboard and we bought a package to go to each of them.
For dinner I had:

  • Lump Crab - baked with sweet yellow corn, provolone and leeks
  • Arugula salad - goat cheese, toasted pine nuts, crisp shallots, sun dried tomato vinaigrette and balsamic syrup
  • Filetto Mignon with horseradish mashed potaoes, porcini mushrooms, arugula and barolo sauce
The steak was excellent.
