Martine drove us through the Pyrenées into Spain, this morning. We explored San Sebastián and then had tapas for lunch. It was fun to try out our Spanish. We found a great ice cream shop and also bought some souvenirs. From there, we went back into France and spent some time in Saint Jean de Luz. This town is famous because it is here that Louis XIV married Eugenie of Spain, forming the Peace Treaty of the Pyrenées. Lastly, we went to ...

We planned ahead and ate a heavy lunch late in the afternoon. Being full, we were able to ...

The Basque Country of Northern Spain is very different from Spain in general. Different language, darker complexions, and the houses are much more like what we have seen in Austria or Italy than in Spain. The country is hilly, richer, and greener. The coast along the Bay of Biscay very rugged with ...

Wet Biarritz

I walked this morning, in fact I've walked all day, in the rain. The centre of the town was closed to normal traffic as the shops became street market stalls, heaps of bargains. Biarritz is easy to get around by two main bus lines, close to Bayonne if you want a bigger town to explore. It feels ...
