... we are fortunate to find Ristorante Bar Peter that has stayed open. It is thronged with motorcyclists sheltering from the hail. The lunch there is surprisingly good, and we are impressed with a Serbian waitress who speaks five languages fluently, including Spanish. She tells us that she is engaged to a Spaniard from the Canary Islands and will be be going to live there this summer.

We get through a relaxed lunch. Perhaps too relaxed, as we realise that we don’t have time ...

... Maria ! It seems we have arrived in town at the start of a festival which means restaurants are very busy but we were lucky enough to see a free band concert in a square last night which was our second free concert in Italy so far. Today's tour was to Bolzano, close to the Austrian border. We arrived there late in the morning, stopping for a quick espresso at a truck stop - it's hard to get used to doing things the Italian Way when you have to pay for what you want first, then go and join the queue to get served!
