Early start. Smooth transition but all crossing our fingers we would make our 6.40am train. Plenty of time fortunately. Will be a nice day of rest, with 6 hour trip through French country side and Alps. Gorgeous sunrise. Have our trusty ham and salad baguettes for the trip. Arrived in Milan, caught metro to Avis. Not too bad but hot and a tad further than we thought...the day starts to unravel a little...we are now in ...

... villages clinging to the mountain side, hairpin bends like you wouldn't believe, but all incredibly beautiful and so green. Drove into the village of Abetone, recognising within minutes that it was obviously a ski town. Being a Monday, many shops and the tourist information centre were closed. ... lunch before pursuing
activities similar to those of other days. You’ll all be happy to know that the sword that Millo got for his birthday (the one with lights and sounds) he broke so I was spared the infuriating sound of it today. Hooray for children’s destructive natures! However, I think the best part of our time together today was watching Millo tie himself up in a string of balloons we had for the party yesterday. There’s nothing ...

      Leaning Tower of Pisa

... the fašade doors to enter, instead entering by way of the Porta di San Ranieri (St. Ranieri's Door), in front of the Leaning Tower, made in around 1180 by Bonanno Pisano.

Above the doors there are four rows of open galleries with, on top, statues of Madonna with Child and, on the corners, the Four evangelists.

Also in the fašade we can find the tomb of Busketo (on the left side) and an inscription about the foundation of the Cathedral and the victorious battle ...
