... riding consisted of a climbing breakaway (I'd hang on to David's wheel, then strive to keep him in visual contact), a second pod of about 5 riders, then those going at their own pace. Regrouping was done at the peaks, or, if there was a simple road choice, David & I would confer and head off to the next main town, which often worked out, but on occasion added extra climb or distance to our day. Highlights were universally the 27 switchback technical decent on the way ...

Then, one layer further back from the nice modern paved mall area we found the most interesting part of all I.e., the very old town. Built onto the side of the hill it is just a maze of narrow covered alleyways. The streets are all on a steep incline and so basically form ...

Day 55 - Monterosso to San Remo

We simply loved our B&B in Monterosso and for that reason we were in no hurry to start the journey to our next and final destination in Italy I.e., San Remo. When we finally hit the road it was a journey of just over 250 kilometres along a very easy tollway which took us almost to the turn off into San Remo. All up with a coffee stop included the trip took us just over 3 hours to complete. The first half ...
