... to see the opera Romeo and Juliet. The rest of us visited the Museum of the Great War. We then waited for Raphael, our taxi driver, to pick us up, and then headed back to the hotel. Tonight we had a nice dinner. We said goodbye to Viv, who is heading home by train. The rest of us will meet for breakfast tomorrow and then four of us will drive with Raphael to the Marco Polo airport at 8:30. Our plane is at 1:15. We'll likely do one more entry to the blog on our way ...

We stopped at the Rifugio Lavaredo briefly and continued on to the Rifugio Locatelli, which was a very busy hut. Here I had a beer and Val had a mineral water. Choughs are black birds which are relatively common in the ...

It has an elevation of 2,136 m above sea level. We then went south over Passo Sella between the provinces of Trentino and South Tyrol in Italy. It ...

This morning we wandered around the streets of Lienz - a medieval town in the Austrian state of Tyrol. We saw buildings dating from the 1200's. We then took the bike up to the Großglockner Alpine Pass in Austria. The weather was fine and sunny until we reached Franz-Josef Höhe where it cooled down to 3.4 degrees C, and once we reached the pass itself, it was 0.9 degrees C. There was fog ...

    It was going so well...

... breaking conversations the last few days with a boy who will remain nameless (!) I was left sitting looking out on the pouring rain wondering why I was crazy enough to think I could do this alone! Then I look at the map and literally see how far I have come, and what Lily and I have already accomplished together. I think back to the views in the Hardangervidda National Park and driving the Sirdal - Lysebotn pass without batting an eyelid, only to find out later it's listed on ...
