... but the so-called "facilities" were awful....Old, tired, dilapidated and ferkin ugly!
And, it was still stinking hot - like 40+! and no breeze, and the air thick with mozzies that you could cull with a sword....no pool, ugly showers....
So we just bunkered down, and enjoyed a lovely cold shower in ...

... some pain, the first pain aux raisins of the tour and some tea. It was so hot on the terrace, such a contrast from our previous descent.

We reached our stop for the night, La Maison de Joséphine, by about 1:30pm. St. Jean de Maurienne is the town at the foot of the Col du Télégraphe. We stopped briefly just to take a layer of clothing off before starting the climb. The first few kilometres meander through a residential area before rising through woodland, revealing impressive views of the valley we had just cycled ...

Climbing the Col de l'Iseran

Once out of Val D'Isere you start the climb to the Col de l'Iseran. It was a relief to get out of the village and into the open landscape. It's a really beautiful climb along this part of the D902, and the roads are very quiet, just a few Germans on motorbikes and the odd car. We were also passed by about half a dozen Morgans ...
