Lots to report today. We had one of our best rides yet along the coast from Peschici to Manttinata through Gargano Park. Lots of rolling hills, little traffic and beautiful vistas. Between Manttinata and Manfredonia, our final destination for the day, there only two routes. One is a 2 km tunnel, closed to bikes, and the other is a mountainous road with many switchbacks. Unfortunately the local police had closed the road for a car race. We used ...

This morning got off to a rocky start. We took a "shortcut" which looked extremely promising on the map, however, the dirt road gradually turned into a two track and then a sand path through a swamp which was infested with most of the world's mosquitoes. Who knew mosquitoes loved Italy too? Eventually we pushed the bikes through the soft sand for about a kilometer while fighting off and ingesting the mosquitoes ...

He also knew how we could get to our destination (hint: in the opposite direction). On the way to town, we found a cheese wonderland with aged cheeses, spiced cheeses and barrels of fresh bufala mozzarella. The later of which became our lunch. Things tend to work out. Thank you ...

... The waves made a loud bang when they hit the ship. It sounded like thunder. Fortunately, I didn't get sick and slept well. However, Toni got sea sick. Another fun event on the ship is when we come into a port and dock and again when we leave a port. Most passengers, that have a balcony, come out and those that don't go up on the top floors to watch this event. If there is another ship at the port all the passengers wave to one another. It is dorky but ...

      Hadrian's Villa & Vieste

We traveled all the way across Italy to the eastern Adriatic coast to the town of Vieste on Wednesday. On the way we stopped to see Hadrian's Villa just outside of Rome near Tivoli. If you recall Hadrian was the dude who built the Pantheon and the wall across the northern edge of the Roman Empire in England to protect the Romans from invading Celts. This is the origin of the old expression that "if you can't beat ...
