... suddenly we went into a tunnel and came out the other side in this huge gorge surrounded by craggy cliffs. There is really only one building when you get there, and it’s a weird stark looking thing with a church in the middle and a hotel and a hostel around it. There were some lovely hikes around it so I had a good old yomp before returning on the train.

The next day I went to have a look at Andorra. I was curious about the history of it and how it ...

... shortly thereafter we were joined by Wayne Lori and Mesfin. We all then got on the very busy N road and proceeded to this hotel which is right on the highway. Tomorrow is a huge day with 3100 metres of total climb and a total ride of 118 Kms. Either Caroline is going to get a lot of business, or some of us will not be getting to the hotel until very late. Thanks to all who have been commenting on the blog. ...

I suppose if I'd thought about it, we were always very likely to run into issues with road construction on this trip and it finally happened today.

It was yet another hot, sunny day. Departing from the very pleasant Hostellerie de la Poste in Oust fashionable late as usual, Dave, Linda and I made our way south to Pont de la Taule and along the pretty Vallee d'Ostou for the climb to Col de Latrape. We ...

... who died descending the Col de Portet d'Aspet and the fact that my roomie crashed - fortunately into the grass and not the road - yesterday).

At any rate, after a nice breakfast we set off upstream for a change, on the way to the base of the climb to the Col de Latrape - or at least I did; a host of others apparently chose to bypass some of today's climbs. Who knows - maybe ...

DAY 8/June 21: Les, Spain to Oust

... was a total zoo at the top with dozens of cars on top of the usual assortment of cyclists. Not sure why. Snapped the usual photos and moved on.

I don't know exactly what I was expecting from the climb to Col de Portet d'Aspet but a short 4.4 km at an average grade of a steep 9.7% wasn't it. Right at the bottom I saw a GPM10 support car. I've heard of that cycle tour outfit; they run trips with very serious, challenging riding. ...
