    ... has Charlemagne living here briefly, in 800AD, to establish the monastery, and reputedly marking out the hills with his buttocks. The walk around the village is the Pied de Charlemagne, literally, his footsteps.

    Finally, locals take kindly to our attempts at French, humouring us and filling in the gaps where even a Franglais word won't suffice.

    ... it. I took another side road and drove through what appeared to be groves of bamboo until I came to a larger bridge under the main road where I could fit. The new site is very large, mostly consists of cabins but has a few touring pitches.     ... Quite nice. Found some shops, and found a coat but didn't really want to pay 189 euro as I probably wouldn't wear it back in Oz. I was in search of an op shop, which they call vintage shops here but couldn't find one. Will keep exploring and if I can't get one over the next few days may go back and get that one.
