Headed south for a coastal drive around the outskirts of
Narbonne to Port-la-Nouvelle. A pretty
town with a lighthouse.
Stopped at Port-Vendres.
A harbor full of sailing boats and lots of restaurants where we found a restaurant serving moules and frites (mussels and fries).
In search of a lighthouse to view, we drove a very narrow scary
road around the cliff.

mountains brought us out onto flatter
country where we looked up and atop the steepest highest mountain were the
remains of Lapradelle-Pulaurens, a cathar castle built to prevent attack from
the church that were persecuting Cathars at the time. We had to walk a fair way
up a stony path but we were rewarded with stunning views. We walked the
battlements and stood in the various towers.
... Not as fast as a road bike of course but compared to the Canal tracks the road to Narbonne was fast. 15km in 40min with busy traffic we found a pretty **** cafe for a coffee, it happens. From Narbonne we followed the Canal and the track was quite busy, once again we passed everyone as the tail wind was wonderful. Thoughts of the return trip crept in though.
