The hotel is in central part of city. You can see a lot of the buildings that were damaged in the earthquake. Very sad to see. The hotel is clean and has been recently updated for carpets etc. the room although small is nicely appointed. Staff have been friendly and helpful. Internet is free and works.

Excellent weather for our trip today. Caught the train at Springfield and went to Arthurs Pass. Train views were unforgettable . Came back by car with photo stops, lunch at the wobbly kea Cafe. A kea is a native parrot that loves to bug humans. We were able to see one in the wild. The jet boating on the Waimea river was a riot. Went up river around …

On the bus early today. 12+ hours bus from Queenstown to Christchurch. Arrived here around 7:30 pm. Can still see the evidence of recent earthquakes. The amount of devastation in city core is hard to believe. On our way here we Stopped at Mount Cook to eat lunch and view glacier. Beautiful scenery all the way. Mike has caught a head cold. Off to Christchurch today. It's a beautiful city on the east coast of the South Island, also know as the Garden City for it's lovely gardens - it has an amazing and huge Botanical garden. The Avon river weaves it way through the Botanical gardens and through the centre of the downtown core.

We are in Christchurch now in a busy campsite in the city with loads off traffic noise. The sites nice though and enables us to have a look around the place. The whole of the inner city area still looks like a bomb site after the devastating earthquake in 2010 .It is interesting watching it getting built up and seeing the future plans. The main shopping area is just a small section with all the shops and banks ...

... Wanaka and Taupo so we have some options. After this we take a look around the town. It's a very quiet place with nothing going on at all but a lot of building work. It seems that they are still repairing the whole place since the earthquake, there are patches of rubble amongst houses which what we can only assume were houses before. The whole of the shopping centre and high street must have disappeared as ...
