... information desk about car rental options, and almost rented a car to get to Kimotsuki, when a sudden insight smacked my head and made me ask how long it would take to drive Nishimiyakonojo.

Driving five hours to the station followed by probably another hour from there to the couch I was to sleep on that night didn’t seem like a great idea to me. The main reason for this is that I had the clarity of mind to decide that the first time I try driving on the left side ...

We felt very privileged and were treated very well in the ryokans, I'll miss Japan.

We also enjoyed the 7 samurai home village, with bonsai and the intriguing kanakasi airplane fighters museum with photos of all of them. They looked so young and an old man giving a talk about it, still a lot of interest, after all these decades. No photos allowed.

Only one night in Hiroshima at a hotel right near the station The Sheraton a fabulous hotel very western and big rooms.

Our first stop was a walk thru the Peace Park which everyone should do including the politicians. Leith and I have done it twice so we went by ourselves to the Shukkeien Gardens.

... 1 hour small loop taking in a good viewing point for the volcano but standing in the line and watching them cram people onto this bus like sardines makes us rethink, plus talking to other people waiting in line who are doing the 2 hour full island loop, we are convinced that this will be a much more comfortable way to go. The bus arrives and it's only about 3/4 full so that's excellent, well worth the extra cost because we have a seat and we will not end up squashed and ...
