On arrival at Anadyr Adventures we were all eager to set off. First we got kitted out by our guide Spencer, and then went through a few basics. The water ferry arrived at the dock and we loaded on. We had an hour and a half ride out to the start of the kayaking. In ten minutes we were unloaed and in our kayaks. It's amazing how fast time goes when you're having fun. We saw a waterfall, seals playing, and headed up a ...
Valdez, Alaska, United States usa2009aswm... are really starting to show in this group of pictures. Also, we worked for a week pulling invasive weeds along the highway with a youth group called SAGA. That was some of the worst work we've done. It was boring and we were right next to giant trucks ripping by us at high speeds. Also, we had to wear blaze orange vests which made us look like convicts.
Cordova, Alaska, United States thedart... but that's how memories are made right? In June, I got sent to Petersburg Alaska for Wildland Fire training. My old buddy Mike Truex is down there working and we got to catch up and hike and hang out like old times. If you have a question about these pics, email me and I'll elaborate as needed.
Cordova, Alaska, United States thedart... I've got are probably a better explanation anyway. The trail crew consists of my boss, Dave Zastrow, Andy Morse, the other crew leader, Dave Hamm, John Curran, Kynan Adams, Leif Stavig, and three SCA interns, Bryan Alexander, Andrew Deaette, and Adam Miller. It's a big crew and full of really good dudes. Hopefully, by the end of the season, we can have an awesome mustache crew picture for y'all. Hope everyone is doing well in their various parts of the globe.
Cordova, Alaska, United States thedart... this point, there was nothing we could do. So we waited. Once given the signal (we were first) we jetted through, cruising just above the speed limit, and rushed down the terminal. Michal and Sarah rushed in while I waited in "temporary" parking. They caught the window as it was closing and told me to go ahead and leave the car there since we would only be gone one night. As soon as we walked in, they called foot passengers to board. We cruised across the ...
Cordova, Alaska, United States crazystrange... beautiful site. Next day, it was on the road again. Stopping for a brief hike up a ravine/mountain near Burwash landing, we then stopped in to check on Milo's friends, potential hosts for the night, no luck, they were gone, and we had other options in Haines, so it was back on the Highway. Another border and a few raindrops, and we were back on the coast, the first time for both of us in Haines. Haines is a the north end of a long fjord called Lynn Canal, with ...
Cordova, Alaska, United States gringo-gaucho... a table by the window so we still got to see them. After dinner, we sat in the Crooner's lounge listening to the pianist/singer and watching the endless stream of snow-capped mountains and waterfalls passing the window until we went to bed at midnight as the ship docked at Whittier - and it was still daylight!
College Fjord, Alaska, United States stevegrace... to spend the afternoon up there. Which was very cool I have never been on the bridge before so it was very cool and especially cause we got to see the glacier from the best view on the ship I got some awesome pics too. Our captain is really cool very young as far as captains go 39 I think youngest in the fleet.
Hubbord Glaicer, Alaska, United States beaudy... to Gus and Judy Emmer, from Washington, Missouri! It gets better, he is retired from AmerenUE, and he worked at the Labadie Power Plant. No, he did not know Kenny Brugemann, Tim. Should we have asked him about any others? They were delightful people and we very much enjoyed visiting with them. We exchanged names and addresses and a promise to go camping together some time in Missouri. Saturday, July 16 - We awakened to the pitter patter of little... rain drops on our ...
Vadez, Alaska, United States pat-don-alaska... early and missed the champagne waterfall and dancing. This morning we were really lazy and slept in till 9:30. I came back to mom's stateroom. So far we've seen a killer whale, a humpback, two Dahl's porpoises and two puffins in the water. At last, two puffin sightings! My life is now complete! The talent show was really fun - especially the "If I were not upon this ship" crew member skit. By the time the show ended, we were well into ...
