... Hakone is very much a tourist town, and is known for its food, onsen spas and close proximity to Mt Fuji. A short train trip takes you to a cable car which had 360 degree views of the mountain ranges that included Mt Fuji. As the cable car came over a mountain peak and Mt Fuji came into view, oooohs and aaahhhs from the passengers were loudly heard. It is quite a beautiful scene. Luckily the sky was ...

Here the hot springs, erupting geysers and bubbling pools of boiling mud dominate a fascinating landscape. We take the Hakone rope way from Sounzan down to Togendai on lake Ashinoko. We take a boat journey around the lake which is a water filled volcanic crater with a circumference of 18K. We are now making our way to Tokyo by ...

I expect it would have been beautiful under different circumstances but today the odds were certainly not in our ...

... to get some happiness or something along those lines. Back on the trail we reached the top of the hill where the trees thinned out and you could see all the way out along the landscape and out to sea which provided us with a great excuse to have a rest. Then we came to Kotokuin temple which housed the Big Buddha. and although the statue itself was magnificent the whole are was a tourist trap and we quickly got out of there and made for the pub to watch some university ...

... in translation" sums up Tokyo lifestyle, with the rush hour commuters coming out of the station heading across the streets from all directions. Like a lot of the foreigners there i spent quite a long time crossing the same road or people watching every time the green man appeared. After a change of plan, caused by the weather, I won't be heading to Mt Fuji but instead to Nagano and will hopefully be circling back to fuji in slightly less stormy ...
