We thought we were pretty good at catching trains. This morning we managed to catch the wrong one which set us back a couple of hours. Quite a few train changes required in our trip to the Izu peninsula which is (normally) a couple of hours south of Tokyo. We packed up our gear and I'm glad we took the approach of having a base for a week and doing day trips, rather than packing up an switching accommodation every day or two. Unsettling Process of Settling We woke this morning to an alarm sounding throughout our new neighborhood. As we began searching online for an answer, it stopped. We figured it wasn't a test at 6:30 am, but since it stopped decided not to worry. Then at 7:15 it went off again for a couple minutes. To end our day we went up the Kyoto Tower for a night view of the city! The next day we ...

It was very upsetting when we were not able to get the bullet train tickets that we had already paid for and then had to pay out of pocket to get back home.

On the plus side, we got to ride multiple parts of the extensive Tokyo transportation system and saw beautiful Japanese houses and gardens in the countryside.

... housing base so we will have easy access to military amenities and perhaps future friends. The house is gorgeous and spacious. The Navy will have to do an inspection this week, and there is a lot of paperwork. Thankfully we learned how to pray and make our wishes at a Shinto Shine this week. After three days of Navy and cultural briefs, we were rewarded with a field trip. The main purpose was to help everyone get comfortable with ...
