    ... his stove gas directly onto the flames, which erupted and spread across the grass. He put a piece of wood on top of the grass as an effort to put it out.     ... local, commenting that they surely know who wears the pants around here. With a full boat the crew was thrilled the following day when all 6 of them chartered a car and departed for Niagara Falls. We walked into town and enjoyed a long crew lunch on the river, a much needed preview of the break soon to come.

    Alexandria Bay is stunningly beautiful! There are over 1800 different islands here with homes on them. Half of the St. Lawrence River is in US waters, the other half is in Canadian waters.
    The tour we took started on the US side and took us all up and down both sides of the river.

    ... but since it was steep and over large rocks, we took the elevator!) The summit offers a 360-degree view. On a clear day you can have views of Lake Champlain and Vermont’s Green Mountains to the east, the St. Lawrence Valley and Canada to the north, Lake Placid and the High Peaks to the south, and the Saranac River Valley to the west. In a word, it is spectacular and was my "unexpected moment" for today! Thanks Pat M. for making me aware of such experiences!
